Who’s Who

We are blessed by all our different teams at MBC that help our church to thrive. One of those teams is our diaconate. They serve our church in many ways including overseeing our buildings, finance and outreach work

Rob and Jenny Hughes

Rob and Jenny joined us as our ministers in 2024.  They are passionate about sharing the good news in ways that are accessible to people of all ages and all backgrounds.  Rob is an avid Ipswich Town fan and loves being out cycling on his bike.  In her down time Jen really enjoys climbing, ice skating and gardening.  They have two children currently studying at University.

Janet Cottenden

Janet is our church secretary. Janet has been worshipping at Melbourn Baptist Church since 2013 and became a deacon at the beginning of 2024. She has an ecumenical background, growing up in the Methodist Church and being part of various churches during early adulthood, before settling in Melbourn. Janet works locally as an Early Years teacher and is also involved in our church children’s work. She is married to David (who can often be found in our music group) and has two daughters. In her spare time she enjoys craft and baking, especially cheesecakes.

Chas Sims

Chas joined the church in 1983 and has served as a deacon for about 20 years in total. He is currently the church treasurer.
He is retired and is married to Carol. They have three children who are all married and have seven grandchildren.
Rebecca Wilson
Becca is thrilled to be serving the church as a deacon. She has a husband, three children and a cat, and has lived in Royston since 2006. She is passionate about the living, breathing church, and getting involved with the local community. She is the deacon with responsibility for safeguarding.

Laurie Horden

Laurie joined the church after moving to Royston in 2017. Before retirement he had a background in further education teaching and in church ministry. Prior to this, he worked in the I.T. industry. He is now responsible for fabric maintenance, and is on the preaching team.

Mon Holcombe

Garry Coxall

Garry joined Melbourn Baptist Church in 2003. He is married to Sally (who is part of the worship band) and has 2 daughters (Eleanor & Lydia).
Garry works for a local Precious Metal/Chemical company as a Production Planner.
Garry looks after the audio & visual side of church, supporting the worship group and congregation.
Garry is very excited to be a part of the leadership team and looks forward to what God has planned for the church.

Helen Tobiss

Helen is married with three children and has lived locally and attended MBC for over 20 years. She works part-time for, and also volunteers with GenR8, a Cambridge-based mission partner of Scripture Union that presents Christianity in primary and first schools. She helps with children’s and youthwork at the church and also runs the craft morning and enjoys doing all sorts of craft, but is happiest when spending time in the great outdoors. Helen is part of the church admin team.
