About Us

Articles of Faith

  1. We hold that the Christian faith is fittingly expressed in the words of The Apostle's Creed:

"I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried, He descended into Hades; the third day He rose again from the dead, He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty: from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the Holy Catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting."
  2. In common with other Baptist Churches, we accept The "Declaration of Principle" adopted by the Baptist Union, viz:

The basis of this Union is:

    1. "That our Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, is the sole and absolute authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws.
    2. "That Christian baptism is the immersion in water into the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards God, and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and rose again the third day.
    3. "That it is the duty of every disciple to bear personal witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to take part in the evangelisation of the world."
  3. We make further declaration of our faith as follows:

    1. The Triune God We believe that God has revealed himself in the incarnation and through the Holy Scriptures as triune Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God (Hebrews 2:1-2; John 1:14&18; John 14:26; John 16:13).
    2. The Lord Jesus Christ We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, in His deity and His humanity, that He is the Son of God, born of the virgin Mary, true God and true man.
    3. The Holy Scriptures We believe the entire record of the Scriptures to be the word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21) and the only standard of faith and practice (Psalm 119:105; Joshua 1:8; 2 Timothy 3:17; James 1:22).
    4. The Atonement We believe in the atonement: that on the cross Christ died for our sins, bearing the judgment of sin, "The Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God" (Romans 3:23-26; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 3:16).
    5. Salvation

We believe in salvation by faith, that we are saved from the guilt and power of sin by personal faith in Christ alone (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9). Those who trust in Christ as Saviour are born of His Spirit (John 3:3) and in Christ become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). The evidence of the new birth is repentance towards God, personal faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour, the practice of prayer, the prayerful reading of the word of our God and consistency in all these things.

    6. The Church's Ordinances

The two ordinances instituted by our Lord should be observed by all believers, viz:

      1. Baptism

        Matthew 28:18-20 (See B2 above)

      2. The Lord's Supper

This commemorates our Lord's death: in it we signify our communion with Him in His risen life until He come (Matthew 26:26-28; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26), but is no sacrifice for sin, and does not involve any change in the substance of the bread and wine.

    7. The Great Commission

We believe the Church is commissioned by Christ to bear the Gospel to the whole world (Matthew 28:19).

    8. The Second Coming of Christ

We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ for his church, and urge upon all the attitude of expectancy and readiness in heart and life (John 14:2-3; Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18; Hebrews 9:28; Matthew 24:44; Revelation 22:20).

      Even so, come Lord Jesus!

    9. The Judgment

We believe in the resurrection of the dead and in the final judgment with its eternal issues, the eternal blessedness of the righteous and the eternal punishment of the wicked (Matthew 25:31-46; John 5:22; Acts 17:31; Hebrews 9:27).
